Fire resilient rebuilding tip #14: Consider xeriscape landscaping to reduce or eliminate the need for irrigation

February 25, 2024

Each week, we share a practical landscaping or building tip from the Village’s Fire Resilient Community Fact Sheet.

Fire resilient rebuilding tip #14: Consider xeriscape landscaping to reduce or eliminate the need for irrigation.

Xeriscaping means designing a landscape that reduces or eliminates the need for irrigation. Not only does it help you conserve water, but it also reduces other maintenance, such as the need for weeding, mowing, or using fertilizers.

Not sure where to start? FireSmart BC’s fire-resistant plant tool can help you select different kinds of plants  based on hardiness, water use, and sun or shade preference.
