Council briefs: June 25, 2024

July 3, 2024

At their meeting on Tuesday, June 25, Council:

  • Extended the $5,000 archaeology grant to applications submitted by December 31, 2024, with the same terms as the original program;
  • Authorized creation of a Protective Services Standing Committee of Council to help and guide the Village’s fire prevention and response services and emergency management operations—the committee will include three members of Council, three community members, the Chief Administrative Officer, and the Emergency Management Coordinator;
  • Approved grants in aid to four organizations, which normally would have received a permissive exemption for their municipal property taxes—the Village missed the deadline for the permissive exemptions, so the grants in aid will cover the tax amounts for the Anglican Church, Parish Hall, Legion, and Catholic Church properties;
  • Received the 2023 Village of Lytton annual report (Download the presentation);
  • Approved the 2023 Statement of Financial Information (SOFI) report;
  • Received an information report for the annual review of Code of Conduct Policy No. 2023-01;
  • Received an information report about the Infrastructure Canada funding process for the Community Hub (Download the presentation)—this funding will also cover the new Fire & Rescue Community Building;
  • Received the OCP Permit Areas Project Report 3 for information (Download the presentation);

  • Received an information report on Emergency Management, Fire & Rescue Service, and public safety, which provided an overview of regional capacity and immediate next steps (Download the presentation);

  • Gave first reading to Zoning Amendment Bylaw (Accessory Dwellings) No. 752, 2024; and

  • Adopted Financial Plan 2024-2028 Amendment Bylaw No. 753, 2024.
