Who can vote in the election?
Village of Lytton residents who are:
- 18 years of age or older on Election Day;
- A Canadian citizen;
- Resident of British Columbia for at least six months before Election Day;
- Resident of the Village of Lytton before Election Day and
- Not disqualified from voting by any statute or law.
Please note that since many Village of Lytton residents have been displaced due the fire, you are considered a resident if:
- The person is a resident of the area where he or she lives and to which, whenever absent, he or she intends to return.
- The person can be a resident of only one area at a time for voting
- The person does not change from an existing area of residence until he or she has a new area of residence
- The person does not stop being a resident of an area by leaving it for temporary purposes only
I own property in the Village of Lytton but do not live there. Can I vote?
- If you own property in the Village of Lytton but live outside the boundaries of the Village, you may qualify to vote in the Village of Lytton 2022 General Election.
- Non-resident property electors must produce at least two (2) documents that provide evidence of their identity and place of residence, at least one (1) of which must contain their signature.
- In addition, proof that non-resident property electors are entitled to register in relation to the property in the Village of Lytton; and if applicable, written consent from a majority of the other registered owners of the property, will also be required. If there is more than one individual who is the registered owner of the real property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, only one (1) of those individuals may register as a non-resident property elector in relation to the real property. You may only register as a non-resident property elector in relation to one (1) parcel of real property in the Village of Lytton. No corporation is entitled to be registered as an elector or have a representative registered as an elector and no corporation is entitled to vote.

Do I need to register in advance in order to vote?
No. If you are a qualified voter but you are not registered, you may register on General Voting Day, at an advance voting opportunity, or when requesting a mail ballot. You will need to complete an application and provide proof of residency in the form of two pieces of identification.
For resident electors, Lytton is using the Provincial Voters List. If you have voted in previous provincial elections, it is very likely that you are on this list and already registered to vote for the Election. You can confirm if you are already on the voter’s list by visiting the Elections BC website at www.elections.bc.ca by emailing elections@lytton.ca.
What is the Voters List?
The Village of Lytton will be using the Election BC’s Provincial Voters List for this election. Elections BC maintains and updates the Voters List between elections. The Voters List includes your name and residential address, if you are a registered voter.
As per the Local Government Act, candidates may request a copy of the Voters List for election purposes only. When the Voters List is no longer required, the Voters List must be destroyed. The Local Government Act provides serious penalties for the misuse of Voters Lists.

Can I request that my name and address be omitted from the Voter’s List?
Yes, you can request that your name and address be omitted from the Voters List. Please contact elections@lytton.ca
What types of Identification must be produced in order to vote?
In all cases, voters must produce at least two (2) documents that provide evidence of identity and place of residence, at least one (1) of which must contain your signature. The classes of documents that may be accepted as evidence for the purposes of Section 57 or 57.1 of the Local Government Act are:
- a BC Driver’s Licence;
- a BC Identification Card;
- a photo BC services card;
- a non-photo BC Services Card;
- an Owner’s Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle Licence issued by ICBC;
- a BC CareCard or BC Gold CareCard;
- a Ministry of Social Development and Economic Security Request for Continued Assistance Form SDES8, (now “Monthly Form EA181);
- a Social Insurance Number card;
- a Citizenship Card;
- a real property tax notice;
- a credit card or debit card issued by a savings institution; or
- a utility bill issued for the supply of electricity, natural gas, water, telephone services or coaxial cable services.
The above listed identification documents must be accepted by election officials. Sections 72(3) and 73(3) of the Local Government Act allow other documents to be accepted at the discretion of the election official.

What positions are available in this election?
There are one (1) Mayor and four (4) Councillors positions available in this election.
Am a qualified to run in this election?
In order to run for a municipal government elected position in British Columbia, you must be as follows:
- a Canadian Citizen;
- 18 years of age or older;
- a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and
- not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from being nominated for, being elected to, or holding the office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.
When do I submit my nomination papers to run for this election?
The nomination period begins on August 30 and ends on Sept 9 at 4:00 pm.
Who can vote by mail?
All eligible Resident Elector’s and Non-Resident Property Elector may vote by mail.
How do I vote by mail?
You may request a Mail Ballot package from the Village of Lytton website beginning Sept 19. Completed mail ballots should be placed in the mail by Friday, October 7. Mail Ballots must be received by the Village of Lytton before 8 pm on Saturday, October 15 to be counted.
